Tunaweza’s work to promote Inclusive Education
An estimate of 2 million children in Uganda leave with disabilities. Like all children, they have ambitions and dreams for their future. Like all chidren, children with disabilities deserve quality education to realise their full potential ans aspirations.
- Scholarships & Sponsorships; Tunaweza promotes inclusive Education for children with disabilities through provision of scholarships & sponsorships to children who have completed their Primary level & would wish to continue to higher institutions. This initiative is supported by our partner Polio & Children In Need (https://poliochildren.org)
- Training of teachers and development of resource materials accessible to all youths with disabilities under Tunaweza Inclusive Program (TIE) funded by the US Mission Uganda.
- Carrying out disability awareness training to tackle stigma and discrimination in communities by educating individuals on the benefits of Education.
- Advocacy: Tunaweza promotes inclusive education in discussions, high-level events and other forms of outreach geared towards policymakers and the general public.
- Awareness-raising: Tunaweza shines a spotlight on the needs of children with disabilities by conducting research, participating and hosting roundtables, workshops and other events for government partners and civil partners.
- Implementation support: Tunaweza assists with monitoring and evaluation in partner organizations to close the implementation gap between policy and practice.
